Colonel Lance Patterson, Assistant Head Employer Engagement, Reserve Forces and Cadets, Ministry of Defence
Colonel Patterson was commissioned into the Royal Regiment of Wales in 1989 and served with the 1st Battalion in Warminster, Hong Kong and Ternhill as a platoon commander, anti-tank officer and company second in command. He transferred to the AGC(SPS) in 1993 and completed a tour with 1st Royal Tank Regiment before being appointed Adjutant of the Army Training Regiment Winchester. Subsequently, he moved to Germany as SO2 SPS HQ 20th Armoured Brigade which included deployment on Op PALATINE to Former Yugoslavia.
After attending the Advanced Command and Staff Course, Colonel Patterson instructed at the Army Junior Division of the Staff College 2001-2003. He moved to become Deputy Chief of Staff HQ 160 (Wales) Bde in Brecon, during which time, he established a family home in Wales. On promotion to Lieutenant Colonel he completed a second tour in Regional Forces as Commander SPS HQ 5th Division in Shrewsbury. He worked on the Armed Forces Act 2006 and was responsible for the development of tri-Service discipline policy. A former Commanding Officer of the Staff and Personnel Support Training School, he moved to the Directorate of Personnel Administration in Army HQ in October 2011 as Assistant Director Force Generation. His previous post was as Deputy Commander 160th Infantry Brigade and HQ Wales from Oct 2014-Dec 2018. He assumed the appointment of Assistant Head Employer Engagement 11 Jan 19.
Colonel Patterson’s interests include road cycling, rugby – he is a passionate follower of Llanelli Scarlets – and maintaining a Morgan 4/4. He is married to Nia and has a daughter, Lowri (Jun 94) who is a barrister.
